Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) is thousands of years old and has changed little over the centuries. Its basic concept is that a vital force of life, called Qi, surges through the body. Any imbalance to Qi can cause disease and illness. This imbalance is most commonly thought to be caused by an alteration in the opposite and complementary forces that make up the Qi. These are called yin and yang.

Health is an expression of harmony between Yin andYang in the body. When Yin and Yang are out of balance, there is illness

– When Yin does not cool and nourish Yang, then Yang may rise causing headaches, a red face, sore eyes, nosebleeds, irritability, or manic behaviour

– When Yang does not warm and activate Yin there may be cold limbs, tiredness and lethargy, poor circulation of blood, and oedema (fluid swelling) of the legs.
